Passyunk Avenue is a Philadelphia-inspired, self-professed ‘dive bar’ serving classic Philly cuisine and drinks in a laidback setting. Literally translated from its Greek origins Philadelphia means ‘brotherly love’, and this is the overarching aim of the Passyunk franchise: to share the culture of this iconic US city with the world. Fittingly located just a stone’s throw from the American Embassy in Nine Elms, this is the fifth branch in the capital.
Food-wise, expect classic diner fare and a table full of indulgent, messy grub. Start off with the famous wings coated in buffalo, BBQ or honey mustard sauce served with celery and blue cheese or ranch sauce, or try the oozing jalapenos poppers and mozzarella sticks. The star of the show is without question Passyunk’s signature Philly cheesesteak: choose from a filling of ribeye steak or chicken thigh, served in a traditional hoagie roll and topped with onions and provolone, and you’ll see what all the fuss is about. Alternatively, there are a number of speciality sandwiches available such as meatball parm, roast pork and all-day breakfast roll. If you’d like to keep it a bit lighter, opt for the cobb salad or a classic iceberg wedge drizzled with blue cheese and topped with bacon bits. There are also plant-based sandwiches on the menu so no vegan is left behind.
The extensive drinks menu showcases American brews, as well as some London-based ales, perfect to complement your meal. If you’re feeling adventurous try one of the signature cocktails like the Pickleback Martini, a dirty Martini made with fresh pickle juice, or the Citywide Special which is an iconic Philly dive bar drink of a can of Blue Ribbon and a shot of Jim Beam.
Be sure to keep an eye out for the offers and events such as the happy hour, wings special, lunch meal deal and Sunday bottomless brunch.
