Panchuli is an Indian restaurant that can be found in the former private mansion on Solihull's high street. The kitchen is led by chef Maz Rahman, who, along with his team, proudly prepares and cooks elegant, modern Indian cuisine to a high standard, and serves it in luxurious surroundings.
Whilst you peruse the menu, you should order some starters, like the plain poppadoms and pickle tray with several sauces for dipping. To begin, try the Maharaja, an assortment for up to four people. An appetiser board, this platter is complete with salmon tikkas, mutton chops, chicken 65, vegetable samosas and flaming king prawn pakoras. Other starters include the chilli scallops and king prawns in garlic butter, the spicy tikka puree with spiced cubed chicken on thin, fried bread, and the ever popular, crispy onion bhajis. To follow, you should try the special of mutton Rogan Josh, a kashmiri delight of slow cooked mutton with mixed spices topped with pan-fried tomatoes, coriander and melon seeds, along with gujarati lamb dansak that is sweet and sour hot lamb cooked with lentils and butternut squash.
You will still find some of the classics on the menu, but many of them have a twist. Just like the chicken tikka with mushroom tawa, a fragrant and warming curry dish that comes together on a hot tawa (a griddle), and one that is very popular on the streets of India. There are lots of seafood and game dishes, too, such as the bangla fish bhuna that is an amalgamation of basa fish fillets that are sauteed with onions, plum tomatoes, bullet chillies and lashes of coriander in a thick onion gravy.
