SquareMeal Review of On The Bab Covent Garden
Bronze Award
London’s current obsession with Korean food continues and to service the growing demand for the likes of rice poppers and Korean fried chicken with steamed buns, On The Bab has come to Covent Garden. The sister restaurant to the original in Old Street, the house favourites are all present and correct – bulgogi beef and kimchi bokeum bab (a sort of kimchi bacon paella topped with an egg), as well as Korean-style burritos in dry seaweed with kimchi, seasoned vegetables and barbecued meat. The menu is based on an Anju feast – food specifically designed to go with alcoholic drinks – so it’s no surprise that the emphasis on the bar is strong; the Sojurita - a margarita made with soju - is particularly recommended. With only 43 seats and no reservations, expect to wait for tables at busy times.
