Dramatic flaming goblets mark the entrance to this imposing Grade I-listed building. Once the Law Courts branch of the Bank of England, the OBE has been restored by Fuller’s brewery in neoclassical style, complete with marble, specially commissioned murals, chandeliers & sculptured high ceilings. London Pride is on tap, alongside Fuller’s favourites Chiswick Bitter & Discovery Blond, while homemade pies are the menu’s highlights, from chunky steak & ale to roasted red peppers in Stilton & paprika cream sauce. Luckily, today’s ingredients don’t reflect the building’s history – legend has it that the pub is on the site of the original Sweeney Todd’s, where the ‘demon barber of Fleet Street’ sold ‘meat’ from dismembered customers to Mrs Lovett’s pie shop.
