Located within the luxurious Bedruthan hotel in Mawgan Porth, Ogo is a modern restaurant serving a seasonal menu comprised of dishes made from fresh Cornish produce. Offering stunning sea views and an intimate dining experience, it’s a more formal alternative to the hotel’s relaxed eatery The Wild Café. Book in at Ogo for top quality service, inventive cookery and quiet yet classy ambience.
The Bedruthan hotel itself sits on a hill overlooking Mawgan Porth beach and its huge white façade looks ultra-contemporary if a little imposing. However, make your way down to Ogo and you’ll be greeted by a simply decorated dining room with muted tones and large windows which look out over the bay below. Stylish light fittings hang from above, while seating comes in the form of a mixture of curved booths and stylish upholstered chairs. Red velvet curtains, which stay undrawn throughout the day, add an element of theatre to the otherwise understated room.
The restaurant does offer a delicious afternoon tea featuring tempting savouries such as a Cornish crab Caesar brioche roll and sweets including lemon glazed yum yums, but the main food offering is the regularly changing dinner menu. Costing £40 per head, diners have a choice of just a few options for each course. Expect starters such as pickled mackerel with sherry vinegar, sourdough, rhubarb and elderflower, and duck liver parfait served with brioche. Choose from a meat, a fish and a vegetarian dish for mains with options ranging from pork chop with beer pickled shallots, black cabbage and ale sauce to salt-baked celeriac with pickled walnut ketchup.
A well thought out wine list accompanies the food menu and features a variety of different wines available by the glass and bottle. Other drinks on offer include a range of spirits, seasonal cocktails and soft drinks.
