Billed as a coffee and wine specialist, Notes offers what it calls ‘day-to-night hospitality’ in high-traffic commuter areas across the capital. Top-notch cups of Joe from the group’s own roastery, plus generous pastries, cakes, sandwiches and salads are at the centre of things, and there’s a feeling of genuine warmth about the set-up. Queue at the long wooden counter or linger in comfortably pared-back surrounds over a platter of charcuterie and a bottle from the carefully curated wine list. In the evening, the place moves into wine-bar mode with a more extensive ‘light plates’ menu featuring the likes of smoked trout pâté, duck confit or tender lomo en orza (marinated pork loin). True to its name, Notes is also fond of music – so expect a laid-back jazz and classical soundtrack, plus regular talks and special themed events.
