Nobu is a name that excites Japanese food lovers across the globe. Renowned for its high quality, carefully thought-out dishes, and exceptional attention to detail, it’s gained notoriety as one of the best Japanese restaurants on the planet. This time however, the Nobu hotel in Shoreditch is opening its own, more low-profile café, swapping ‘dress to impress’ for casual comfort. Whilst the atmosphere may be relaxed, the quality remains the same in both the food and the service. The dining room is overlooked by large windows flooding the room with natural light, whilst the wooden features give a nod to traditional Japanese interiors. Much like the dishes themselves, the overall feel is contemporary and clean cut.
The Nobu Café menu steers away from the usual fare we’ve all grown to love, and has changed it up for something a little more day-time friendly. Serving breakfast throughout the morning, expect things like Egg Donburi and Egg and bacon rolls with Tonkatsu sauce, as well as a plethora of baked goods. Lunch offers something a little lighter, like a field green salad with tuna tataki and Nobu Ceasar chicken salad with Ceasar truffle dressing, crispy rice and Parmesan. Or for those after something more substantial, there are sandwiches available where classic fillings have been given a Japanese twist. Think smoked salmon rice panini with toasted oshizushi, smoked salmon, cheese, red onion and wasabi pepper. Similarly with pud, familiar desserts have been created with a hit of Japanese flavours, such as the yuzu tart.
Alongside alcoholic options of beer and wine, there are also plenty of hot beverage options with herbal, black and green teas. In the morning, fresh juices are available to offer a healthy start to your day.
It’s the perfect spot for a business meeting, or a light lunch before exploring the neighbourhood.
