Monkey Brewhouse in Lymington gives off a cosy, traditional feel, with dark wooden flooring, tables and chairs which are all balanced out by the white tall ceiling, giving a much bigger and lighter feel. Monkey Brewhouse sits within an 18th century brewpub, where the beers sold are made on site.
Although it is so much more than just a place to stop by for a pint, the food here is equally as well executed. With everything from nibbles to sharing platters, there’s plenty of options for every occasion. Think pork bon bons, crispy calamari or whole baked camembert for something lighter or to share, whilst mains sees things like fish and chips, poached trout nicoise and wild venison burger take centre stage. Then for dessert, think mango cheesecake, churros and a cheeseboard. On Sundays, guests are given a similar offering, but with the addition of a small variety of roast options. Each meat comes with a Yorkshire pudding, duck fat roast potatoes, honey roast parsnips, buttered mixed vegetables and rich gravy. For those looking for something a little lighter at lunch time, there are baguettes available that come with a range of fillings, such as a BLT, fish fingers and Ploughman’s.
The drinks menu sees some of the usual pub fare offering a mixture of spirits, bottled lagers and cocktails. Think classics such as Espresso Maritinis, Aperol Spritz and Cosmopolitans and even alcohol free options. However, it’s a must to try one of the beers made on site, such as the ‘Sea Wall’ or ‘Forest’, which come with a breakdown of the malts and hops used as well as tasting notes. With wines you can expect a range of whites, reds and rosés including Gavi di Gavi from Italy, Rioja from Spain and rosé from France.
