Open every day of the week, Mike’s is a casual pizza restaurant in Peckham which serves Roman-style pizzas, along with a couple of side dishes and a menu of cocktails, beers and wines.
Mike’s forms part of Copeland Park, Peckham’s ‘cultural quarter’ which also houses the popular Bussey Building. The restaurant offers both indoor and outdoor space and guests can choose to dine-in or take their pizzas away. Home delivery is also available to the local area via the Deliveroo platform.
Mike’s comes from the team behind The Camberwell Arms and Frank’s Cafe (also in Peckham), with the restaurant’s main focus being its pizzas. Dough is risen over 48 hours and the team uses type one flour, which means some of the bran is left in. The combination of the two results in pizzas that are light and crisp, available by the slice or as a whole.
Mike’s menu changes pretty regularly and toppings range from the simple to the rather fancy: choose between the likes of a standard mozzarella, tomato and basil variety or a ‘Bonita’, consisting of Cornish early potatoes, courgettes, almond fonduta and lemon. Those who like a bit of spice can opt for the the likes of n’duja with corno pepper, chilli, ricotta and finocchiona, while lovers of pineapple (often considered pizza’s most controversial topping) can delight in the ‘Nicoletta’: pineapple, mozzarella, scotch bonnet onions and mortadella.
You can pad out your meal with side orders such as burrata with tomatoes and basil or gem lettuce topped with tropea onion, herbs and crumbs. Dips are available too, in the form of Scotch bonnet onion mayonnaise and n`duja mascarpone.
To wash it all down, pick from Mike’s surprisingly extensive list of sips. Classic cocktails (Negroni, Margarita) are available, alongside bottled beers, European wines and soft drinks.
