Located in the Norfolk village that gave the mini-chain its name, the original branch of Middletons aims to please with its trademark contemporary interiors and a menu that covers all the basics – from pasta and salads to burgers and seafood. Steaks and grills naturally steal most of the limelight, with sirloins, rib-eyes and chateaubriand lining up alongside rack of lamb, sticky ribs, pork chops and ‘prime’ surf and turf (fillet steak plus king prawns or lobster). Ice creams and sundaes loom large on the dessert menu, alongside treacle tart, Eton mess and chocolate fudge cake. Sunday lunch is a big family spread, and kids have their own two-course mini-menu at other times. As for drinks, expect a handful of cocktails and bottled beers, plus a concise wine list with plenty by the glass.
