Maya is housed in an old Manchester warehouse, but there is nothing dated and dusty about their menus, cocktails or party scene. This fantastic venue is located on the corner of Chorlton Street and Canal Street, and is a go to spot if you're looking for somewhere special. On the ground floor there is a cocktail bar and bistro which is great for long lunches and evening get-togethers, whilst the bistro bar and terrace is the place to be if you're hunting for an exceptional cocktail.
To begin your meal, order some snacks of tartlet brie de meaux with golden raisin or the dry aged beef and broccoli tartar. Starters include the roast French squab with beetroot and cherry, a ricotta ravioli with comte, and Orkney scallops with mussels, girolles and smolked demi-glace. There are a few grand mains to choose from, including the Isle of Wight tomato tart with burrata and onion, halibut with a Champagne clam sauce, salsify and artichoke and fillet of beef with onion, foie gras, red cabbage and truffle. The sides are exceptional, too, including truffle pomme puree, borlotti bean cassoulet and a fresh side salad. When it's time for the dessert, try the brillat-savarin cheesecake with kiwi and sorbet, a pear tatin with calvados caramel and vanilla ice cream, or a platter of British and French cheese with lavroche and quince.
The bar menu is slightly different, with plates of barbecued asparagus with cured goat's cheese and Cafe de Paris butter, rock oysters and a truffle tagliatelle. A sticky toffee pudding with malt ice cream and crystallised pecans is the showstopper of the dessert menu, whilst the wild strawberry yoghurt with sesame and baba is a little more refreshing.
