One of the newer shops from this popular Japanese udon chain, Marugame is famous for letting your personalize your noodles.
The shop is casual and cozy, with a view overlooking their lively udon kitchen. Decorated with light wood paneling and furniture, blue tiles, and red pillows, it's easy for the eyes to follow the squiggly ceiling lights to the udon stations, which are under a red lit-up sign that says 'Welcome to our Kitchen.' The decoration in the restaurant is relatively simple, but it provides a comfortable dining experience to eat the Japanese noodles and tempura.
Marugame Udon Canary Wharf's menu includes the same affordable and classic choices as their other locations, with entrees hardly ever costing more than £10. Understandably split into Udon, Rice Bowls, Tempura, Omusabi, and extras, the menu is dedicated mainly to its udon, while providing tons of fun toppings. There are thirteen different udon bowls on their menu, some of which are the Beef Yaki Udon with stir-fried udon with beef and caramelized onions, Kimchi, cabbage, red peppers, onions, bean sprouts, and carrots; the mildly-spicy vegetable Curry Udon, to which you can add a slice of chicken katsu to make the Chicken Katsu Curry Udon; or the Two Pork Tonkotsu with charsu pork, spicy miso pork mince, a seasoned egg, and rich tonkotsu soup. They also have choices of Kake, Kamaage, or rice bowls, all of which you can add tempura to-- such as the gyoza, fried pumpkin croquette, or prawn tempura.
Diners can wash down their meal with a selection of bottled or canned sodas or alcoholic drinks, including sake. Marugame Udon also has small dessert options like mochi, soft serve, or dorayaki pancakes, just in case you want to satisfy your sweet tooth while still being full from your noodles.
And if you go from March 22-April 26 in 2022, be sure to celebrate cherry blossom season with Marugame Udon by adding a personalised cherry origami blossom to their 'Tree of Hope' and enjoying a limited-edition cherry soft serve.
