L'ulivo offers a traditional Italian dining experience in a contemporary environment on the Strand. For 15 years, L'ulivo has been crafting authentic Italian dishes and serving them to locals and tourists alike. The menu hinges on a concept that most Italians will be very familiar with: simplicity. Focusing on fresh, seasonal ingredients to create its authentic dishes, along with relaxed service that makes guests feel at home, this welcoming spot is just as suited to an evening meal with an old friend as it is a smart business lunch with colleagues.
The restaurant receives daily deliveries of fresh ingredients and changes the menu accordingly, often creating a specials board for new dishes that are in season or have simply inspired them recently. And, if anything seems to be lacking, the chefs visit local food markets to pick out the best produce by hand.
The extensive menu features several courses, from starters and salads to pasta and secondi dishes focused around fish and meat. Kick things off with a selection of starters, such as mushrooms in a creamy gorgonzola sauce with home-made bread, tiger prawns in chilli, lemon and garlic sauce, or a salad of vine tomatoes, mozzarella, avocado and basil.
As with any Italian restaurant, pasta is a huge deal here and there are several sections on the menu dedicated to the stuff. Try the tortelloni collina which sees pasta parcels filled with rich ricotta and spinach, then topped with truffle oil, cherry tomatoes, garlic sauce and grana Padano cheese shavings. Elsewhere, discover the likes of penne fantasia with chicken, sun dried tomatoes, garlic and a light tomato sauce.
If pasta isn't your thing - never fear, as there's also the likes of grilled salmon, chicken escalope and homemade burgers to sate your appetite. You'll also find a decent range of pizzas too, with toppings like mozzarella, Italian prosciutto and fresh rocket salad.
