Bury St. Edmund's is well-known as the foodie capital of Suffolk. With fierce competition across a range of cuisines, it can be hard for a restaurant to stand out and make their mark on the local culinary scene. However, Lucy's Pizzeria manages to do just that through their excellent handmade Neapolitan pizzas.
Love for pizza isn't the only sort of love you'll find in this Italian eatery. Lucy's Pizzeria originally began in 2019 as Lucy's Restaurant, founded by Lucy Davis and partner Francois Pretorious, who met and fell in love at the famous Ballymaloe Cookery School in Ireland.
Lucy's passion for pizza shines through every step in the cooking process. All dough is made entirely from scratch, before being hand-stretched by the chef, undergoing a double fermentation process and being cooked to perfection in the bespoke Italian pizza oven featuring a rotating base. The final result? 10-12 inches of delicious sourdough base, topped with everything from goats cheese and caramelised onion, to Calabrian sausage, red onion and chilli, to chesnut mushrooms and truffle oil. All of these are prepared using only the freshest ingredients and the finest quality mozzarella and Italian tomatoes.
It's not just pizza on offer here; the menu at Lucy's is packed full of other southern Italian delicacies. Classic carbonara makes an appearance, as does beetroot risotto with goat's cheese, pan-seared gnochhi, and king prawn and asparagus tagliolini. If you're hungry for more, the range of sides are an excellent showcase of la dolce vita: olives, burrata, arancini and Nduja meatballs are certainly going to tingle your tastebuds.
Stepping inside the restaurant, you'll find calming minty tones and light wood furniture, giving an airy rustic vibe. House plants, exposed bulbs and framed print add the final touches to the calming atmosphere, inviting you to settle in and enjoy.
