SquareMeal Review of Le Bouchon Wine Bar

Bronze Award

When Frenchman Jean-Philippe Tessier opened Le Bouchon, he wanted to create something akin to a Parisian ‘bar à vins’ – a true wine bar dedicated to the pleasures of food and drink. ‘Terroir meets modernity’ is the motto and J-P is true to his word, judging by readers’ enthusiastic comments: “this amazing little place oozes class”, notes one fan. The globe-spanning 100-bin wine list offers around 25 tipples by the glass or carafe, while the menu is dominated by those dependable wine bar staples – bread, charcuterie and “the best cheeses you can find”. Peckish drinkers can also pick from a selection of small plates and bigger rustic dishes ranging from rabbit and rosemary terrine, quiche Lorraine or goats’ cheese salad with honey on toasted bread to beef bourguignon, slow-cooked duck leg or roast chicken thighs with sauce Madère. There are also desserts, cakes and ice creams for those with a sweet tooth. “A really nice place to catch up with friends”, concludes one local.
