Launched in 2003 and now a favourite with Cambridge socialites and the good-time crowd, flexible La Raza manages to combine the attractions of a daytime café, tapas bar, restaurant and live music venue – with plenty of snazzy cocktails, beers and wines to boot. Barista coffees are always available, while lunch brings a selection of toasted ciabattas, snacks and picks from the tapas menu – perhaps stuffed piquillo peppers, chicken livers with sherry on toast, mussels in chorizo broth or deep-fried goats’ cheese drizzled with orange-blossom honey. Come nightfall, big pans of paella for sharing are the main event, along with charcuterie, salads and an extended selection of nibbles. La Raza is also one of the hottest nightspots in the city with live blues, soul and jazz, plus DJs during the week and at weekends.
