Whisking diners away to sunnier shores, La Casa Vecchia is a lovely Mediterranean restaurant nestled within the historic Pantiles area of Royal Tunbridge Wells. In one of Kent’s more upmarket towns, the Pantiles is a popular area filled with independent boutiques, restaurants and cafes and La Casa Vecchia sits right at home there. Enigmatic owner Carlos and his excellent team dish up the most delicious Mediterranean dishes along with a big spoonful of warmth and friendliness.
The food is so fresh and so tasty that it’s easy to forget that this restaurant is in the centre of Tunbridge Wells and not perched along the shores of a Spanish costa. Dip into a divine dish of mussels cooked in white wine and garlic accompanied by warm crusty bread and get dinner off to a great start. Follow with a steaming Spanish stew filled with clams, monkfish, salmon, prawns and mussels or a Tunisian style chicken with lemon, olives, oregano and a spicy sauce. Carnivores cannot fail to be impressed by the amazing carnes a la piedra – succulent and sizzling steaks cooked on a hot slab of granite at the table and served with sautéed potatoes and a range of dips.
