A casual dining restaurant in the heart of Ambleside, Kysty comes from the team behind The Old Stamp House. Brothers Ryan and Craig Blackburn are driven to create a classic Cumbrian inspired dining experience, drawing inspiration from the surroundings that they grew up together in. When Kysty opened its doors back in 2018, the brothers’ aim was to serve great food which was above all else, seasonal, delicious and inspirational to customers.
Led by head chef Dan Hopkins, the team have crafted a menu that is full of dishes inspired by the surrounding Cumbrian landscape. The ethos of chef patron Ryan Blackburn is to only use the finest ingredients which are seasonally available, all from local producers, who grow, rear and preserve with an exceptional eye for detail and quality. Using their nature’s bounty, Herdwick is brought from the high fells, beef from the Solway Plain, wild game from the High Pennines, mushrooms, nuts and berries from the woods and forests that surround the restaurant, along with wild salmon and trout from the rivers that criss-cross the landscape and fresh fish and shellfish from the cool waters of Cumbria’s Irish Sea coast.
Those who love great tasting food will no doubt appreciate the menu, with dishes of garlic mushrooms with roasted hen of the woods, garlic emulsion and hazelnut, as well as Garside’s lamb rump, with roasted broccoli, mint and anchovy emulsion and custard tart with poached rhubarb.
There is also a children’s menu, which although pleasing to fussier appetites, never lacks on flavour or invention, and is crafted using the same delicious, local ingredients. Each time you visit the team at Kysty, you’ll no doubt have a brilliant time.
