Found at the Colchester outpost of Dragons Den star Duncan Bannatyne’s glamorous resort group, Kingsford Park Restaurant is a smart eatery that serves modern British comfort food using produce that has been sourced locally and is freshly prepared in house.
The restaurant is open all day, kicking things off with a fuss-free breakfast menu of morning classics. If you are in the mood to indulge, you can order the Extravagant Breakfast (which is essentially a full English complete with truffled eggs and half an avocado) or you can opt for made-to-order waffles crowned with smoky bacon and maple syrup or honey, cream and berry compote. If you’re feeling virtuous however, start your day with the less calorific likes of granola finished off with Greek yoghurt and maple syrup or gluten-free breakfast oats topped with berry compote and honey.
Later in the day, Kingsford Park Restaurant’s menu switches things up to include a range of sandwiches, filled with the likes of cheddar and tomato chutney, or brie with smoked bacon and mango chutney. In the evening, you’ll find a traditional à la carte menu of contemporary comfort food, as well as stacked burgers and meaty steaks from a grill.
You can kick-start dinner with the soup of the day (served with freshly baked bread) or the chargrilled tiger prawns pepped up with lime and paprika. For your main course, order grilled sea bream served alongside brown butter gnocchi, pickled cauliflower, charred cauliflower, lemon beurre blanc and watercress. Vegetarians meanwhile, can instead order slow-cooked aubergine with butter bean puree, burnt onion and tamarind sauce.
To round off your meal, pick a sweet treat from Kingsford Park Restaurant’s selection of desserts. Perhaps the blackberry and apple crumble tart with vanilla ice cream will take your fancy, or maybe you’d be more partial to the indulgent salted caramel cheesecake, lashed with honeycomb, toffee sauce and coffee cream.
