Kahuna is a pan-Asian restaurant in Newquay run by husband-and-wife team, Ryan & Kelly Mather. Inspired by the owners' years spent travelling, Kahuna's regularly changing menu covers plenty of ground and uses fresh local ingredients to showcase traditional dishes from a range of different Asian countries. Kahuna's relaxed ambience lends itself well to both intimate dinners and larger celebrations while its prime location moments away from the beach mean it's an equally great spot to end up at after a day's surfing.
Just a stone's throw from Newquay station, Kahuna has a modern look from the outside with customers being greeted by a brightly lit sign. The contemporary feel continues inside with tables spread out around the stylishly decorated space and a central bar providing a focal point to the restaurant. Lanterns hang from the ceiling as a nod to the style of food that Kahuna offers, while colourful prints hang from the walls.
Kahuna's knowledgeable team are able to make recommendations when it comes to ordering food if you're unsure about the menu. Small bites such as Thai shrimp crackers and edamame beans can be ordered to snack on while you decide what you want. Starters range from vegetable spring rolls and sweetcorn fritters to chargrilled octopus and weeping tiger. There's also the option to order a selection of dim sum.
In terms of main courses at Kahuna, there is a range of different options available including Korean gochujang pork ribs with special fried rice, Korean beef bibimbap, vegan fish and chips with a yellow curry sauce, and an array of Thai curries. Meanwhile, desserts come in the form of a choice of homemade ice creams.
A carefully chosen wine list has been put together to perfectly complement Kahuna's food offering, while a selection of international beers and spirits are also available.
