Tucked away in a small alley next to an independent book shop, just off Cambridge’s famous King’s Parade and it’s iconic market square, is Indigo Coffee House.
There's nothing quite like a quaint little coffee shop break amidst a long day of exploring the city, and Indigo Coffee House is a beautiful spot for such an occasion. It’s a rather small location, with limited seating indoors, and usually some seating outdoors lining the pavement. However, what it lacks in size, it makes up for in the cosy and intimate experience it provides for customers.
Stepping inside, you’ll find a small but efficient team working to provide hot paninis and sandwiches, salads, soups, cakes, and hot and cold drinks to a wide range of customers. Take a seat and you might find yourself seated (rather closely) next to a student and their tutor meeting to discuss the term’s progress, a mother taking her toddler for a break from a stroll through the city, or a solo tourist seeking a moment’s peace and quiet away from the business of the city.
Indigo’s chalkboard menu varies across days, but past highlights have included penne pasta salad with avocado, black olives, (homegrown) cherry tomatoes, olive oil, and lemon juice, or pastrami, Swiss cheese, gherkin, and mustard in a toasted panini, or hummus, olive, and sundried tomato ciabatta with homemade coleslaw and salad. As well as savourys, you’ll find a selection of sweet pastries, cakes and brownies at Indigo, perfect alongside a mid-afternoon cup of tea. Indigo's signature chalkboard also offers vegan and gluten free options, as well as maps of Cambridge and advice for tourists upon request.
If you’re keen to support a small business on your next visit to Cambridge, and fancy a cosy setting in which to do so, Indigo could be the one for you.
