Not quite on the Thames, but the next best thing, Hotel du Vin & Bistro may no longer be new wave but it fits the genteel town of Henley like a glove. Classic French and modern British dishes are all done to a standard in a pleasant turn-of-the-century brasserie setting, though hard surfaces means the room can get noisy on busy occasions. Never short of custom from locals and hotel guests alike, but there is a feeling that this is a missed opportunity, waiting for someone to breathe a little extra life into the place.
