‘Beer from the heart’ is the slogan of the Hawkshead Brewery, where Alex Brodie began brewing commercially in 2002 – after 40 years’ of sampling myriad pints in many of the world’s hot spots as a
BBC foreign correspondent. Today, Hawkshead is one of the Lake District’s most successful small enterprises & its spacious, modern Beer Hall makes an exemplary setting if you fancy sampling a
drop of two from the full range of tipples. There are currently eight regular brews on offer, plus a few special & seasonal offerings. Beer tapas is the latest development, a selection of small
bites to match the booze: Yorkshire pudding filled with braised beef; roast ham with cider & mustard sauce; sticky ribs & plaice goujons, as well as a full-blown roast dinner on Sunday.
