Boasting stunning views of the town’s harbour, Harry’s Lounge is a restaurant and bar in Whitby where you can sit back, relax and enjoy a few drinks alongside some freshly prepared food. Having opened in 2008, Harry’s has become known for serving crowd-pleasing dishes cooked using local produce wherever possible, while its bar serves a wide range of drinks including a number of cocktails. Whether it’s a quick breakfast in a casual setting you’re looking for, or somewhere to get cosy and drink the night away, Harry’s Lounge is a fantastic option in the heart of the Yorkshire seaside town.
Harry’s looks immediately buzzy from the outside with its lit-up neon sign and there are a few tables out front, covered by a canopy, allowing for al fresco drinks. The ground floor is home to the swanky bar area, and features a mixture of tables dotted around and banquettes. An exposed brick wall adds to the contemporary feel of the dimly lit space. Stairs in the corner lead upstairs to the restaurant, which is more simply decorated; daily specials come written up on a blackboard, and the windows give diners panoramic views of Whitby’s historic port.
Menus are inspired by the seasons and vary depending what time of day you visit Harry’s. Breakfast options might include sweet pancakes with maple syrup and berries, and Whitby kippers served with brown bread, while lunch options range from garlic prawns and pan-fried halloumi to specials such as moules frites and a southern fried chicken wrap. Meanwhile, in the evening you can expect everything from a prawn cocktail for starters to steak and chips served on a hot griddle stone. Finish your meal with an indulgent pud like double chocolate cheesecake with a spiced fruit compote. This is all accompanied by a decent wine list as well as beers, cocktails and more.
