The signage displays an image of the Guy Fawkes mask worn by the hero of Alan Moore’s graphic novel V for Vendetta. However, those who assume this is a rallying point for straggly-haired May Day rioters are mistaken – in fact it’s a warm, welcoming venue, illuminated by candles, gas lamps and a flickering open fire. The tidy little bar area is a nice spot for a pint of Treason Stout or Copper Dragon, while those looking for a tad more privacy can retreat to the back room, which is the perfect place for a bite to eat (expect generic, but satisfying pub grub). The bar gets busy on Friday and Saturday nights – so get there early for a place by the fire or a pew at the bar. Sunday night folk sessions and boutique accommodation complete the package.
