Pretty but pared back interiors and pizza perfection are the key cornerstones of any Four Hundred Rabbits site. This little London chain of pizzerias has gathered a bit of a cult following since first opening, success which propelled it to grow from one restaurant into a recognisable brand.
This latest space, at newly built Elephant Park, is just as bright and breezy as the rest, with pink walls, wooden chairs, and exposed industrial ceilings. Staff are always chipper and go out of their way to help with recommendations from the succinct menu, creating a relaxed atmosphere.
Pizzas are made with sourdough bases and come with toppings that are just a touch more interesting than your usual ham and mushroom. A popular combination is one which brings together tomato, mozzarella, chipotle rolled goats cheese, piquillo peppers, rhubarb, and fresh basil. Regular specials also ensure there’s something new to try on each visit, with a recent favourite of ours being a pancetta and pineapple pairing, complete with Aleppo chilli flakes and a fruity chipotle ketchup. A small line-up of sides completes the savoury options, with salads, olives, cucumber pickles and sourdough garlic bread all on offer to pick on before or during your mains.
Celebrating ferments in all their glory, Four Hundred Rabbits Elephant Park also does a solid line in beers (the perfect thing to wash a slice or six down with). On tap there are craft beers from breweries up and down the country, while cans from Gipsy Hill are always stashed behind the bar for handy takeaway options.
Our main tip at any Four Hundred Rabbits site is don’t skip pudding. While that might be our general life advice regardless of the restaurant, the ice cream here is especially good. We’re taking homemade gelato in interesting flavours like alphonso mango or a rich and creamy plain organic milk.
