Food For Friends is a vegan and vegetarian restaurant in Brighton. It’s operated since 1981 and lays claim to being the city’s first restaurant of its kind. The building is at the intersection of two streets in South Lanes, creating a long triangular dining room with windows on all sides.
The food menu is divided into small and large plates and is regularly updated in line with the seasonality of produce. Example small plates include crispy tofu with a Thai chilli and ginger dressing, burrata with pine nuts and raisin caponata, and crispy oyster mushrooms with harissa aioli.
For large plates, you can choose from the likes of a kale falafel patty burger, butternut squash with miso roasted chickpeas, and mushroom pappardelle. There’s also two kinds of wellington: mushroom and spinach (served with roast potatoes, gravy and an option Yorkshire pudding) and celeriac, truffle and hazelnut (served with a celeriac puree and seasonal greens). Side dishes include chunky chips and confit garlic sourdough.
The dessert menu is six dishes long and features a burnt Basque cheesecake, a selection of artisan gelatos that are served by the scoop, and an affogato.
