Joe Relph is a prize-winning farmer of Herdwick sheep, the native breed of Cumbria. Together with his wife Hazel, they run an immaculate B&B as well as this charming little tearoom in one of
the farm’s converted barns. Open every day (February to November), Flock In is just what is needed after a hard day’s trekking on the fells: big, nourishing plates of bacon sandwiches, Herdwick
lamb pasties, pâté on toast & a host of sweet fancies such as scones with jam & clotted cream, carrot cake, flapjacks & sticky toffee pudding. If you arrive by car you’ll probably want
‘plodder’s portions’; if you’ve been out walking, then you’ve earned ‘rambler’s portions’ – although both are served with ice cream. Characteristically, tea comes in pint or half-pint mugs – no
fancy china here.
