Fish (definitely) works
To set up shop right next door to one of the doyens of the London restaurant scene, and to offer a fish and seafood menu to boot, you’ve either got to be mad or stupid. Fishworks is neither and whilst I will admit to a slight hankering to wander further up Swallow Street and enter the hallowed turf of Bentley’s again, all such feelings dissipated on entering Fishworks. A wet fish counter and a blackboard brimming with delicious sounding daily specials as soon as you walk in put you immediately at your ease – this is a place that clearly knows its stuf. My dining companion that evening was a tad late which meant that I must have changed my mind many times on what to order, such was the choice available. As it was, we both opted for the ocean grill – a generous serving of fillets of bass and bream with a scallop and prawn to top it off. As fresh as you like and all cooked perfectly. A simple, unpretentious place – I’m already looking forward to my next visit to try some of the dishes that made it to my short list that evening alone!
