Authentic Italian pizza in 180 seconds is this fast-growing brand’s USP, and judging by the rate at which restaurants are opening in London and beyond, they’re smashing it. Founded in 2016 by Mario Aleppo, Fireaway has grown from one small outlet in Sutton to nine, spanning four counties across London and the South East, with another half a dozen coming soon. This latest addition in Wood Green is dinky, seating only eight diners, but ordering online is easy and quick, and customers can opt for delivery or collection (depending on location).
Fireaway’s build-your-own concept might have the feel of an American fast-food chain, but when it comes to ingredients, only quality produce from the UK and Italy makes the cut. The all-important dough is handmade from a recipe brought from the Amalfi coast by Aleppo’s nonna back in the 1950s, providing a solid base on which to build your perfect pizza.
Promising minimal grease and maximum flavours, toppings include four bases (garlic, tomato, BBQ and pesto), four cheeses, four meats and 20 vegetables, which can be combined however you like. You’ll find all the usual toppings, including pepperoni, ham, mushrooms and olives, and a few less ordinary, such as crispy onions and ever-controversial pineapple. If the choice is too overwhelming, Fireaway offers a number of signature pizzas (chicken and sweetcorn, chorizo and chilli), as well as sides including garlic bread, salads and potato wedges.
The dessert menu is decidedly tempting, with sweet treats including Nutella pizza (with or without bananas or strawberries), cannoli and gelato. There are also a number of thick shakes on offer, including Oreo, banana, Nutella and Custard Cream, while soft drinks keep the Italian flag flying with S.Pellegrino orange and lemon. With a number of vegan and gluten-free options on the menu, there is something for everyone at this modern pizza place.
