Fantomas is a modern European neighbourhood restaurant on the King's Road in Chelsea, headed up by former 108 Garage and Fiend chef Chris Denney. Denney has partnered up with seasoned restaurateur duo George Bukhov-Weinstein and Ilya Demichev, whose impressive portfolio spans London in sites such as Wild in Notting Hill, Belvedere in Holland Park and Lita in Marylebone.
Fantomas’ menu showcases some of the best that Modern European cooking has to offer, with smatterings of East-Asian inspired influence too. Things kick off with an exciting snack selection, which includes a duck liver parfait brioche fig panini (the dish itself hopefully fits better in the mouth than its long-winded name), focaccia with marinara oil, and farinata- an Italian chickpea pancake hailing from Liguria - with garlic, parsley and wild oregano.
The Asian influence starts to reveal itself in the starters section, where there’s a mix of pilchards with gochujang and tomato and BBQ chicken wings with persimmon and sambal. Also on the menu is roscoff onion with sheep’s curd, landcress and sumac, crispy veal sweetbreads with bulgogi and green onion, and pumpkin and almond agnolotti with brown butter, provolone and a sage crumb.
Mains are slightly less experimental and include hogget chops served with aubergine, fennel and tahini, spatchcocked chicken with fermented red pepper sauce, beef fillet with peppercorn sauce, and Iberico belly with quince, lime and jalapeno.
The dessert selection also offers a pretty intriguing selection, which often verges on the savoury and would be hard to skip. Options include a cucumber and dill slushy, carrot with liquorice and yoghurt, fig savarin with chantilly cream, and blue brain cheese with piccalilli. It’s hard to go wrong with Fantomas’ top-level wine list, and other drinks on offer include a miso Old Fashioned and Pandan ice tea with coconut oil-washed rum.
