SquareMeal Review of Everest Inn Blackheath

With a prime heath-side location, friendly staff & flavour-packed food, this smart Nepalese-Indian restaurant has all the hallmarks of a neighbourhood favourite. Below the modestly sized ground-floor dining room is a vast basement seating more than 100 diners. If you’re new to Nepalese cuisine, opt for one of the chef’s recommended dishes, all made with freshly ground spices. Highlights include gurkhali lamb, cooked with Nepalese herbs, yoghurt & green chillies; & hansh bhutuwa, barbecued breast of duck with green herbs & spring onion. The gorgeous momo lamb dumplings are a nod to Nepal’s proximity to Tibet, as is the crunchy, garlicky choi sum. Elsewhere on the menu, you’ll find all the usual curry-house dishes, but the Nepalese specialities are the reason to come.

Amazing party, venue and food

I have been to Everest Inn many times for meals before and the experience has always been very good. However, on this occasion it was exceptional. I organised my husband's birthday party at Everest Inn, Blackheath last month and I am delighted that I chose the venue. The team were extremely helpful and accommodating. Even though they don't normally cater big parties on Saturdays, once I explained my situation, the owner and the manager along with whole team went above and beyond to accommodate my request.
Dipak (restaurant manager) was very professional and did ensure all my requests were met. He worked with me to ensure the menu was personalised and the event was exactly what I wanted.
On the day, everything was perfect. Food was amazing and my asian family who only rarely appreciate food quality in Indian/Nepali restaurants were blown away. They loved the drinks, food and the environment.
Thank you so much!

Good local choice
This restaurant is always consistent, the ambience is pleasant, service is excellent and the food tastes great. They're also incredibly child friendly! My only small criticism is that I miss heated food warmers. If you're anything like me, I can't eat an indian main course quite that fast and it's nice to be able to linger a little bit and really enjoy the flavours. It's such a shame to get halfway through and find that the sauce is lukewarm or even worse cold. Just a minor issue, but otherwise this is a great place to go for your curry!

I decided to make a last minute booking for new years eve for my family of 4 at Everest inn, on arrival we were greeted by a member of staff very smartly dressed and very pleasant. The restaurant was very busy with bookings, really good atmosphere people laughing and music playing although all this was going on you could still hear each other speak. We waited about 15 mins to be served with drinks, our order for starters and main meal were taken. Considering how busy they were we received our starters within 20mins and main meal arrived 15 minutes after we finished our starters. Food was cooked to a very high standard, presentation fantastic and very tasty. My children who are 12 and 14 enjoyed every moment and I can say that we will definately be going back. Extremely good value for money.

I went to this restaurant/karaoke bar with a group of friends. I usually like Chinese cuisine so I looked forward to a different, unique experience… Unfortunately, the first thing you notice about this place on entrance is it is merely functional, not well presented at all. If anything, it looks run-down. We all know the saying, “Don't judge a book by its cover!” But in reality, with restaurants we do because, somehow, it tells us something about what we should expect from the food. If a restaurant is beautifully presented, we expect great looking and tasting food – although looking at Maroush Gardens, that is DEFINITELY NOT THE CASE! Hakkasan on the other hand, is consistently excellent. So this place, walking up the steps into your private karaoke room, doesn't promise much… The room we were in was in good condition, everything worked, it was spacious enough and the walls were strangely padded all over – as if they expected us to have wrestling matches in there! We all sang along and the choice of music was surprisingly good but certainly not particularly up-to-date or flawless in any way. The atmosphere is self-made so that too was good but what about the food? Unfortunately, it really was bland. Nothing special at all, just average. We even had lobster and that was certainly no match for other lobster I've had. It isn't horrible food, it is just, as I said, average – as if the food is secondary to the karaoke. Some people will go to this restaurant, have a great time and forget about the food (because it is very forgettable) and say it is a great restaurant. It isn't. It is an average restaurant with a unique novelty which can be a lot of fun. The service is ok, no worse than most Chinese restaurants. I have a lot of Chinese friends, yet somehow I get the feeling the Chinese restaurant workers don't like non-Chinese customers, it is almost as if they see them as second class citizens – people they do not look forward to serving. Perhaps I am wrong on the whole but this has certainly been the case in almost every Chinese restaurant I have been to. Value for money is quite good but it looks like in this restaurant's case, as with Hakkasan, what you see when you walk in IS what you get – but this time it isn't NEARLY as good.
