Situated in the centre of the seaside town of Whitby, Ditto is a small restaurant serving modern British food. With just six tables in the dining room, the restaurant prides itself on providing a high level of service and serves an ever-changing seasonal set menu, which showcases fresh local produce in an inventive manner. The intimate nature of the restaurant means that you will need to plan ahead if you're wanting to reserve a table here, but if you do manage to secure a table at Ditto, it's wonderfully suited to romantic dinners and special occasions.
The inside of the restaurant feels more like you're inside someone's home than in a dining room and has just six tables dotted around the space. Decor is minimal other than mirrors on the walls which open the place out, but the overwhelming feeling at Ditto is one of comfort and cosiness.
Ditto's contemporary style, which takes inspiration from across the globe, is all about lifting classic ingredients by using unique flavour combinations and cooking techniques. The reasonably priced set menu costs £32 for three courses and features a variety of different options.
Starters might include smoked mackerel served with cucumber and fennel, miso broth with ricotta dumplings, or chicken terrine with hazelnuts and sweetcorn. You can expect main courses ranging from vegetarian dishes like goats cheese agnolotti with roasted pumpkin and mixed greens, to meatier offering such as poached duck breast served with beetroot, cauliflower and a soy and honey dressing. Leave space for traditional puddings such as baked egg custard cream with homemade gingerbread ice cream and a berry compote.
An extensive and affordable wine list accompanies the food menu, while the knowledgeable staff are able to provide recommendations. A variety of other drinks are also available at Ditto including aperitifs and soft drinks.
