Dine is a contemporary brasserie set within a striking, circular atrium above the Traverse Theatre – which makes it great for pre- and post-theatre dining. Light, bright and spacious, Dine is not just for dining, however, as it also boasts a chic cocktail lounge offering a good choice of wine and Champagne alongside a fun list of sips, though Martini masterclasses indicate that this is somewhere that takes cocktail-making very seriously.
The à la carte menu highlights Scottish and East Coast ingredients – think half a dozen Lindisfarne oysters or Scottish beef fillet – while lunch and pre-theatre menus offer great value. Starters such as veal sweetbreads or calamari with chilli jam might be followed by monkfish, chicken breast or a selection of steaks from the chargrill, with chocolate brownie with raspberry ripple ice cream, or spiced apple crumble with clotted cream, to finish – washed down, perhaps, with a glass of dessert wine. It's undemanding cooking, to be sure, but no less enjoyable for being straightforward and approachable.
