When considering cocktails-with-a-view at the Walkie-Talkie (to use 20 Fenchurch Street’s sobriquet), we recommend briefly taking-in the spectacular panorama from the Sky Pod bar on level 35, before graduating to the cosier more intimate confines of Darwin one floor above. Space here is limited, pre-booking essential. Cocktails cover all the bases, but rum rules the roost in tipples such as Salsa (Chairman’s Reserve spiced rum, shaken with Mandarine Napoléon liqueur, chilli and coriander) and Millionaire (a mix of Elements 8 Platinum rum, sloe gin, apricot brandy, lime and grenadine) which is accessible even to non-millionaires at £11.50. Many wines – including top-notch Tokaji at £33.50 – are available at non-sky-high prices. If you are in the market for a celestial setting for afternoon tea, make a beeline here for Darwin’s classic version: a steal at £27.
