This kooky basement hideaway is a temple to the unlikely combo of tangy sauces, fried chicken and Sours. Following E8’s much-loved Chick 'n' Sours Haggerston, this West End debut stars many calories: choose from clucking huge fried chicken burgers, sauce-slathered drumsticks or thighs and intriguing sides of pickled watermelon with coriander and mint or hot-and-sour pineapple studded with peanuts. Dry, supermarket-style buns let down the chicken burgers, our Sours were predominantly sugary and chemically tasting and overall, the food hummed with too much tang: textbook skinny chips and the herb-seasoned Colonel burger are the only reprieves from whacks of spice and vinegary flashes. This will probably appeal to many however, and the whole thing is drizzled in copious amounts of fun via flowery china plates, a party soundtrack and teenage bedroom stylings. Chick 'n' Sours definitely has the Marmite factor, but those who love it will appreciate adventurous flavours at affordable prices.
