CDMX Tacos is a hole in the wall spot in Soho serving up a simple and concise selection of punchy tacos and quesadillas. The project is headed up by Billy Sengupta who has left a high-profile corporate career in Mexico City to bring the cuisine of the city to London. Where to find good Mexican food is subject of hot debate in the Capital but this spot is certainly a contender.
Emblazoned with the bold red and white colours of Coca-Cola branding and striking signage the joint immediately grabs the attention of the passing crowds down the Soho alley that it is located in. It’s more of a grab and go spot than somewhere for a leisurely sit-down however there is the option to stand at the counter with your taco and your beer. The atmosphere is fast-paced, energetic and vibrant reflecting the food scene that the mind behind the project had experienced in Mexico.
Ordering at CDMX tacos is not a complicated affair for their tacos and quesadillas there are four options to choose from – al pastor marinated pork, crispy pork belly chicharrones, grilled beef asada and grilled cactus nopal. All these tacos are served within hand-pressed handmade corn tortillas. They can also be accompanied by chips with salsa or guacamole or potatoes with crema. The beers on offer include Victoria, Dos Equis and Modello and their soft drinks are comprised of a range of jarritos and the ever popular and rare Mexican coke.
With this uncomplicated and curated offering at a reasonable price point making it a perfect place for a bit of quick and casual but excellent food.
