SquareMeal Review of Café Coho

This youthful, caffeine-loving café pays scrupulous attention to detail, even listing technical specs about its machines & grinders. Some might consider that too much information, but there's no denying that Coho makes a good cup of coffee – its fruity house blend (from Union Hand-Roasted) & intricate latte art even won the place a local award in 2011. Early birds tackle stacks of pancakes with maple syrup, while lunchtime sees wholesome soups (pumpkin for example) & superior sandwiches made with well-chosen ingredients – think manchego & salame ciabatta. Old-fashioned sponge cakes & fruit scones keep the afternoon traditionalists happy, as does a decent range of Teapigs tea. Located in the busy South Lanes, the café is permanently packed, but there are more seats upstairs; on sunny days you can nab a table outside for some people watching.

About

Cafe Coho prides itself on selling some of the best coffee, lunches and cakes in the vicinity. By day, the menu sees oversized sandwiches, croissants and cake slices, served alongside coffee with an impressive range of latte art. But as the day fades, it transforms into a cosy space with twinkling fairy lights, and blankets ready to snuggle beneath.
For breakfast, think eggs benedict, nutty granola with fresh fruit and honey, or smashed avocado on toast with smoked salmon and a poached egg. Lunch offers something a little different with dishes like prawns with roasted tomatoes, a goats cheese, fig and roasted walnut salad, or an asian satay salad with a choice of chicken, tempeh or halloumi. Also with a choice of takeaway, there are a selection of sandwiches and bagels made fresh every day to enjoy on the go. Expect swiss cheese, prosciutto and chives, or a smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel. As well as this, there’s also plenty of homemade sausage rolls and a selection of bigger meals like steak and pickles. Of course, coffee also takes centre stage, using only the highest quality ground coffee, Cafe Coho opts for Union coffee beans, with bags available to buy in the shop so you can brew at home and drink from your reusable Coho cup. For those who are looking to stay off the caffeine, there are hot chocolates with marshmallows that offer a hug in a mug, or for something a little less heavy, there is also fresh juices available.
When the sun comes out, so do the outdoor tables and chairs, overflowing onto Ship Street and creating more space for customers. Whether you’re indoors or out, this is a coffee trip where the dog won't have to stay at home as all furry friends are welcome.

Pancakes!!
Love this little cafe in Brighton. Been there for breakfast, snacky lunch and afternoon tea. The maple syrup and bacon pancakes are AMAZING. Great value for money food and drink. Brilliant atmosphere inside and outside – watching the world go by. Offers blankets when its cold so you can still sit outside if needed. Inside space is limited but cozy not cramped. Can't wait to go back for more brunch!
