The best brunch Clapham: 12 of the tastiest places to start your day

It’s late morning on the weekend, and you’re feeling a bit fragile after a heavy night out in Clapham the night before. Your mouth is like the Sahara desert and your stomach is gnawing and crying out to be fed – but in your haste to fulfil all your alcoholic needs you failed to think ahead and stock the cupboards for breakfast the following morning.

Or maybe you do in fact have all the ingredients – but in your fuzzy stupor you are lacking the brainpower or indeed the stamina to throw them all together (no judgement, we all know the feeling). Well do not panic, because fortunately for you Clapham is just as well-equipped to serve your brunching needs as it is your 2am Tequila cravings. Eggs benny aplenty and enough smashed avo on toast to feed a small army – you’re in safe hands here. So throw on your comfiest active wear, knock back some paracetamol and pop on your largest sunglasses – it’s brunch time!

Whether you’re seeking a hearty hangover cure or just some healthy nourishment before a Sunday stroll; Clapham has just about everything to fuel your needs and cure your brunch cravings. From scenic sunny spots to boisterous boozy bastions we’ve perused the Pavement, hounded the high street and combed the Common to find all the best places to tick off your bucket list. Granted it’s a large area to cover so to save your weary legs and scrambled brains we’ve split our handy guide between the principal tube stations in the area – Clapham South, Clapham North, Clapham Old Town and Clapham Junction (yes, yes we know this is technically Battersea but when you’re tired and hungry is it really worth the argument?)

Best Brunch Clapham South

A pub might not strike you as an obvious place to venture in the morning, but we assure you these local gastros know their clientele well and Clapham southerners are all about hearty brunch staples and hair of the dog.

The Avalon

Why: Part of a small group of south London pubs, The Avalon is a classic gastropub targeted at the young professionals that live on the  Clapham/Balham borders. The brunch menu features a large amount of egg-based options such as Turkish eggs with tomatoes, peppers, onion, chilli and yogurt, or chorizo with Boston baked beans and eggs. Another option is a breakfast pizza topped with bacon, mushroom, sausage and egg. You can also go bottomless with Bloody Marys and Prosecco at £20 per person, for those who believe in hair of the dog.
Where: 16 Balham Hill, SW12 9EB

The Abbeville

Why: It might be known as a quiet neighbourhood hostelry in the heart of ‘Abbeville Village’, but come the weekend and things get a lot livelier at this local gastropub. Every Saturday and Sunday from 10am The Abbeville offers a boozy bottomless brunch with free flowing prosecco or Bloody Marys served with brunchtime classics. Amongst the heartier options, braised lamb shoulder, with spring vegetable navarin and salsa verde or a build-your-own beef burger with fries are sure to keep the hunger pangs at bay.
Where: 67-69 Abbeville Road, SW4 9JW

The Perky Nel

Why: The place to come when a sports match is on; The Perky Nel has a dedicated area with large screens showing all the latest fixtures. The beer garden is also a lovely sun trap when the weather is warmer. From the brunch menu the Reuben sandwich – a New York classic consisting of salt beef, cheese, and sauerkraut sandwiched in toasted pumpkin seed and oat sourdough – is the perfect choice for soaking up bottomless bubbles, bellinis, bloody Marys or Aperol Spritzes.
Where: 7-8 Cavendish Parade, SW4 9DW

Brickwood Coffee and Bread

What: For a generous Aussie-style breakkie look no further than Brickwood. If you’ve seen pics on Insta you’ll understand why people are prepared to queue for a table at the weekends. Our favourites include Kumara - sweet potato and feta on toast with a poached egg, kale pesto and pumpkin seeds; and Native mushrooms - pan-fried mushrooms with spinach and ricotta on toast topped with pine nuts and a poached egg. For something sweeter the signature banana bread is a must - lightly toasted and served with an addictive espresso butter to smother on top. Oh and obviously everything needs a side of hash nuggets too, topped with siracha, sour cream, spring onion and bacon bits….
Where:
7ab, 16 Clapham Common South Side, SW4 7AB

Best Brunch Clapham Old Town

The Old Town is the beating heart of Clapham and a pretty area to while away a morning perusing the shops and enjoying a leisurely brunch and coffee as you watch the world go by.

No. 32 The Old Town

Why: This Darwin & Wallace restaurant is easily summed up in three little words: avocado, cheese and booze, which sounds like the perfect place for a spot of brunch right? No.32’s all-day brunch is served at weekends and offers tasty dishes such as banana and ricotta pancakes and a breakfast rice bowl of sticky kimchi, egg, avocado, spinach, mushroom, pumpkin and coriander. Those looking for a morning tipple can sip on the likes of an Elderflower and Earl Grey Fizz, and in the summer months what could be dreamier than sitting out on the terrace overlooking the common?
Where: 32 The Pavement, SW4 0JE

Megan’s Old Town

Why: To the untrained eye, this mini-chain of cafés looks like a standard yummy-mummy meet up. However, those who venture into Megan’s will realise there’s substance to the place. Instagram-friendly interiors and an all dogs welcome policy has made Megan’s popular. The all-day brunch menu has a heavy focus on shakshuka (poached eggs in tomatoes) including variations with halloumi and chorizo. Those with a sweet tooth should opt for the half-baked cookie dough with Nutella, pistachios and ice cream.
Where: 55-57 The Pavement, SW4 0JQ

Minnow

Why: Minnow is a pretty little eatery that suits the Clapham crowd perfectly. On its ground floor, there is a light conservatory feel due to the pistachio walls and indoor greenery, while the basement has a darker, cosier atmosphere. Minnow offers brunch all week and includes all the classics you’d expect such as French toast, eggs Florentine and the full Minnow: poached eggs, sausage, bacon, Portobello mushroom, baked beans and toast.
Where: 21 The Pavement, SW4 OHY

Best Brunch Clapham North

On the border of Brixton, Clapham North is arguably the cooler end of Clapham. This is where to come for some more alternative brunch options.

MOMMI

Why: MOMMI is an exotic mixture of Japanese and South American sharing dishes, most of which you can watch being cooked at the robata grill and sushi counter. There’s a feel good factor with bare bricks covered in colourful prints and DJs playing on the weekends. Brunch can be made boozy by ordering a three-course chef’s selection and bottomless Prosecco for just £32.50. Highlights include the Mommi’s Boy burger and the grilled honey crumpet for hungry diners.
Where: 44-48 Clapham High Street, SW4 7UR

Tsunami

Why: Sushi might not seem like an obvious brunch option but from 12pm every weekend Japanese favourite Tsunami offers an incredible value ‘All you can eat’ offer for just £25 a person with the option of adding bottomless bubbles for £17.50. Plus it’s not all raw fish and rice; other highlights include roasted pork belly; chicken katsu buns; and salt and chilli pepper squid. If that doesn’t drag you out of bed at midday we’re not sure what will.
Where: 5-7 Voltaire Road, SW4 6DQ

Best Brunch Clapham Junction

Ok so its techincally in Battersea but Clapham Junction offers some delicious brunch options that we think are definitely worth crossing the Common for.

The Breakfast Club

Why: An oldie but a goldie, The Breakfast Club has become a modest chain now but it still churns out the same all-day brunch classics that keep regulars coming back for more. The Battersea Rise site was their first south of the river with décor inspired by a 50’s kitsch kitchen and an atmosphere not dissimilar to a pub. With an extensive and affordable drinks list it’s a hotspot for boozy brunchers and the menu of comfort food classics – think pancake stacks, burgers and waffles – is perfect for keeping revellers fuelled all day.
Where: 5-9 Battersea Rise, SW11 1HG

Jacks at the Junction

Why: Jack’s has been a popular purveyor of posh nosh and good honest grub since 2010 and it still draws a crowd every weekend for its affordable and endless brunch options. Never has a menu covered quite so many variations of a full English, but if you can’t find one to meet your requirements there’s a D-I-Y option too. For those who prefer things a little sweeter, the Yankee Doodle Dandy comprises two French toasts and two American pancakes, topped with two fried eggs, two rashers of bacon, a sausage and a generous helping of maple syrup. Phwoar!
Where: 252 Lavender Hill, SW11 1LJ

Social Pantry Café

Why: For those looking for some lighter, more virtuous brunching options The Social Pantry Café is sure to tick all the boxes. This fresh and bright little café on Lavender Hill offers an all-day brunch menu with choices that include coconut quinoa porridge; date and ginger granola; and of course smashed avocado on toasted sourdough with feta, pumpkin seed dukkah and rocket. Bottomless prosecco is offered but if you want to keep things healthy there’s a good selection of pressed juices, kombuchas and herbal teas too.
Where: 170A Lavender Hill, SW11 5TG
