Plant-based eating has proved itself as more than just a fad. Every year, more and more of us are choosing to make changes to our eating habits and 2024 is no different. Thousands of foodies are continuing to take part in Veganuary, where participants cut out all meat and animal products from their diet for the entire month of January. But choosing to go vegan doesn't mean that you have to give up eating out.

There are a whole host of vegan restaurants in London, with people flocking to them as they make more sustainable choices for their future with aims to reduce carbon footprints, improve health and be more conscious of animal welfare. The capital, in particular, is the place to be if you're craving some delicious vegan cuisine. Especially when it comes to brunch - arguably the most important meal of the day. Gone are the days of plain avocado toast being served as the only plant-based option. Don't get us wrong we still love the brunch classic, but it's 2024 - we can do better.

Brunch has seen quite an evolution in recent years with introductions of the boozy edition of the mid-morning meal that has taken the country by storm. There are countless places you can enjoy bottomless brunches in London and whilst a fair few have vegan options we're looking for something a bit more substantial. With Caribbean plantain pancakes to jackfruit tacos, these menus have really taken the concept of plant-based brunch up a notch and you'll definitely want to check them out.

Wulf & Lamb, Chelsea and Marylebone

What: Wulf & Lamb has established itself as a staple in the vegan scene with its 100% plant-based menus. Whilst both locations have tasty and colourful breakfast and brunch options, the menu at the Chelsea location just has a little bit more choice. A cosy and casual joint just off Sloane Square, you can enjoy a relaxed dining indoors or outdoors with the palm tree courtyard available for a bit of al fresco brunching. Tuck into fluffy, chocolate pancakes or try the ackee and black bean open burrito for something a bit different.

Farmacy, Notting Hill

What: Farmacy is an idyllic and stylish space in Notting Hill, with a pleasing neutral backdrop and so many potted plants that you might not be able to see out of the windows. On a mission to serve up healthy and tasty food that is 100% plant-based and free from additives and refined sugar, there's absolutely no guilt when eating out here. Pair your brunch with vibrant superfood smoothies or immune boosting juices, and snack on jackfruit jerk tacos, falafel waffles or classics such as the Farmacy benedict.

Mildreds, Various locations

What: This casual vegan eatery in Covent Garden is part of the group that has been taking London's plant-based diners by storm for over 35 years. Mildred's, now with five locations across the capital, is constantly switching things up allowing you to enjoy a varied and extensive brunch menu of globally-inspired cuisine. Enjoy everything from urid lentil dahl to plantain fritters with mango hot sauce. Mildred's is everything you'd expect from a cosy, neighbourhood cafe with quirky and colourful artwork to match the plates of food.

WAVE, Hackney

What: It's really not surprising that a place called 'We Are Vegan Everything' has some pretty great plant-based brunch options. WAVE is serving up that holiday atmosphere in this stylish beach cafe with wicker chairs and a huge outdoor patio that just screams summer chic. The food continues this vibe with acai bowls, or chickpea tu'nah focaccia, allowing you to pretend you're somewhere much warmer!

Jam Delish, Islington

What: For those of you who are completely sick of avocado toast then this could be the one for you. Jam Delish is an independent family-run Caribbean restaurant and here's the best part: it's completely vegan too. The brunch menu might be limited, but there's also a number of small plates too which we reckon would work perfectly for your mid-morning meal. Here, you'll find the likes of Caribbean fried jerk 'chicken' with charred peppers, crispy onions and slaw or plantain pancakes served with fresh mango, whipped vanilla cream and toasted coconut.

Mallow, London Bridge

What: From the people who brought you Mildred's (above), Mallow is continuing to shake up the way we enjoy plant-based food with this location at Borough Market. As well as keeping the entire menu plant-based, they're also pushing to be as sustainable as possible with an ethos of minimal waste. Choose from fresh and colourful plates of food such as the creme brulee French toast with apricot coulis and pistachio, or a classic plant-based full English. They also have a selection of brunch cocktails to make the affair a bit boozier!

Peachy Goat, Herne Hill

What: Peachy Goat is adding vegan Italian cuisine as an option for your next brunch. Enjoy plant-based brunch in south east London every Saturday and Sunday with this menu packed full of all your Italian favourites, as well as a number of cocktails if you're wanting to start your weekend in style. Tuck into deep fried 'camembert' bites or angel hair pasta with truffle butter and sauteed mushrooms. There's also options for a full English or breakfast burger if you're wanting something heartier to go alongside Bloody Marys and Espresso Martinis.

These eateries may not have completely plant-based menus, but they've all got pretty substantial offerings in the vegan brunch department so you won't have to choose from a couple of measly options.

Kin Cafe, Fitzrovia

What: This beloved little cafe is located just off Oxford Street, it's the perfect place to stop off after a busy morning of shopping. While the menu at Kin Cafe may not be 100% plant-based, it's got a pretty hefty selection where you'll find the likes of pancakes and waffles or a vegan tofu benedict, if that sounds like more your thing. Pair with a selection of smoothies and juices, or skip the healthy options and go straight to cocktails for something with more of a kick.

Avobar, Covent Garden

What: Any place that focuses on avocado and coffee is a place we can get behind. A classic cafe in the heart of London, enjoy the smells of freshly roasted coffee at Avobar with a delightful menu that encourages sustainability alongside healthy, vegan cuisine. The menu isn’t strictly plant-based, but there are plenty of veggie options that can easily be adapted. Choose from an avo acai bowl with banana, mixed berries and granola or try the farmers bowl full of seasonal veggies with tahini dressing.

The Gate, Hammersmith

What: A secluded garden hidden away from the hustle and bustle of London life, The Gate is a delightful spot to go for a vegan brunch in Hammersmith. Here, the brunch menu is served every weekend with a menu packed full of plates that can nearly all be made vegan including the huevos rancheros and shakshuka. An idyllic spot for your mid-morning meal, The Gate really comes into its own in the summer.

Miranda, Crouch End

What: Miranda's is the quintessential cafe, sitting right in the heart of zeitgeist mid-2020s vegan brunching in London. Its hanging plant-adorned ceilings, heaps of natural lighting and brick walls create a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes for a perfect location for breakfast with friends. Try the al pastor burrito made with mock chick'n seitan or a Latin breakfast complete with cornbread arepas, black beans and fried plantain. It's healthy, it's tasty and it's a pretty solid option, in our opinion.

Linnaean, Nine Elms

What: Putting a focus on plant-based and clean eating, Linnaean has a predominantly vegan menu, although there are a few exceptions. This isn't your typical restaurant - self proclaimed as a spa, cafe and apothecary, Linneaen sports a floral style that looks great in photos. The food is very aesthetically pleasing too, with bright and colourful plating. Enjoy biscoff pancakes, as well as eggy florentine (made with a tofu scramble) or a pumpkin and almond butter porridge. The food is healthy yet delicious - the perfect combo - plus, you can even choose to add unlimited fizz to your brunch.

Buhler + Co, Walthamstow

What: Especially popular with vegan diners, Buhler + Co's selection of globally inspired food is worth heading north for. Coupled with relaxed interiors - think wooden beams and hanging plants - there's also a coffee bar with displays packed full of cakes if you're in the mood for something sweeter. The brunch menu includes banh mi bagels full of marinated crispy tofu, pickled veggies and sriracha mayo, or vegan sausage rolls served with a spicy tomato relish. The menu isn't completely plant-based but has a lot of solid options, plus the kitchen is pretty flexible and can make a load of dishes vegan upon request, so you definitely won't go hungry.

The Skinny Kitchen, Islington

What: A cult classic when it comes to healthy eating in London, plant-based diners have almost certainly come across The Skinny Kitchen, which brings Ibiza vibes to central London. The menu isn't completely vegan, but there are some brilliant healthy options as part of the 'Fabulous Brunch'. Enjoy wild acai bowls with fresh fruit, goji berries and homemade granola or a classic avo toast with beetroot hummus and lime on sourdough. There’s also vegan options for the 'Fabulous Bottomless Brunch' if you’re wanting to join the party!
