Found in the village of Zeals just off the A303, The Bell & Crown is placed in a convenient location for those passing by who may fancy indulging in a Sunday roast and a couple of pints. If you’ve found yourself in the area after wandering around the impressive gardens at Stourhead, pay the Bell & Crown a visit. Better still, if you fancy stopping over for the night, there are six en-suite letting rooms, which are decorated in a calming and neutral palette with pops of colour, and give a home from home vibe.
The first Monday of each month is quiz night at the Bell & Crown, so if you fancy yourself a bit of a general knowledge genius, join the team and get your quiz on with a few drinks from the bar and hand stretched Neapolitan pizza from the nole pizza shack. The Bell & Crown is open every day from 11am until 11pm.
The team, led by head chef Jamie, base their food and drink selection on the changing seasons, making a conscious effort to source offerings and ingredients from dedicated and industrious local suppliers. Expect to find starter plates of truffle, parmesan and duck fat scotch egg with rapeseed aioli, Chalk Stream trout ceviche with beetroot, chicory and dill, and cider rarebit with red onion chutney and toast on the menu. For mains, enjoy a chestnut mushroom and red wine stew with sourdough bread, a venison haunch with mash, black garlic and blackberries, or a cider battered haddock served with hand cut chips, mushy peas, tartare and curry sauce.
To dust things off, try the chocolate delice with sesame, cardamom, chilli and blood orange sorbet, and a Sidecar cocktail.
