An alternative to Old Compton Street’s more colourful offerings, Bar Soho draws an equally lively – if straighter – crowd of party animals. For spring 2013, the old dame has had a facelift, its designers revisiting an imaginary past with a magpie mix of witty ideas including enamel bathtubs as seats and toilet bowls as tables in a Victorian ‘WC’ (a peekaboo artiste’s boudoir). There’s also a drawing room fit for a punk Oscar Wilde. Cocktails are not as fashion-forward as those at some of the cutting-edge London establishments Bar Soho’s designers may have visited for inspiration – hence monster fizz, woo woo and Miami Beach freeze by the jug, plus a vodka, Archers and Prosecco punchbowl at £50. Burgers and dogs, sharing platters, lunch and a drink for £6 suit Bar Soho’s target audience of Forever 21 and Superdry fans.
