Bar Levan offers organic and biodynamic wines with a European focus alongside a small plates menu whose excellence lies in its simplicity. The sister bar of local favourite Restaurant Levan this neighborhood spot is conveniently located less than a minute’s stroll from Peckham Rye station.
Set within a snug and cosy space on Blenheim Grove, burgundy walls and candlelit tables create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for a drink and a spot of food. The venue has a casual but chic feel, with music tracks inspired by the eponymous Larry Levan and played from vinyl and a vintage stereo system.
A copious variety of wines not only decorate the walls but are available for guests to sample ranging from French and Italian offerings to Slovenian and Serbian wines. There is also a Coravin system in place here allowing guests to have the chance to try some of their more premium bottles. The drinks menu also features an extensive list of Mezcals guiding guests from the north of Mexico to the south of the country. There is also a curated selection of aperitivo on offer with a Levan Negroni, a Martini with a splash of radikon, and pastis.
Bar Levan’s food menu features simple but elevated bar snacks with pickles, olives, smoked almonds and anchovies for guests who are only looking for a quick snack. Those who are feeling like something more substantial can opt for dishes such as beef tartare, guinea fowl terrine or even bavette-frites with a mixed leaf salad for two to share. The dessert offering features the ever-popular Basque cheesecake accompanied by rhubarb.
This interesting menu makes Bar Levan a perfect casual neighborhood spot for an evening drink before a meal or an after-dinner spot for winding down. It is also worth mentioning that the bar is dog-friendly.
