SquareMeal Review of Ballie Ballerson

Bronze Award

Balls to Shoreditch! That was the cry as this party bar’s bosses shipped 250,000 little globes from their original Dalston basement, chucking in 750,000 more at their new permanent adventure playground on Curtain Road. Think Bananas in Pyjamas and ‘My Little Pony’ for thirtysomething kidults at a Koh Samui pool party – let loose in a glowing sea of bouncy, bright plastic spheres. Cocktails take their cue from a 1980s kids’ birthday party, with Pink Shrimp Daiquiri, Bubble Gum Refresher and Skittles Sour among the ‘sweeties’. And for those who wouldn’t be caught dead drinking Black Forest Gateau, head for A Very Serious Drink (a Bulleit whiskey, Benedictine and Cognac Manhattan), one of several fixes for grown-ups. To eat, tuck into a pizza (ham, fig, rocket and sun-dried tomato, perhaps), then dive back into one of three giant ball pits and Play Away

About

Ballie Ballerson is a quirky, ball pit experience, bar and restaurant in the heart of London's Shoreditch. The vibe here is lively and full of fun, with novelty interiors and neon light signs that conjure a 'Cocktails and Dreams' feel. Ballie Ballerson is brilliant for groups and especially big nights out like birthdays or office dos.

The space is broken up into the main bar and the ball pit. The main bar is darkly lit with colourful lighting and a tongue-in-cheek spin the wheel hoisted on the wall, alongside tropical references and palm trees. It has richly red-hued seating in the form of leather booths which can be booked and offers a more exclusive way to enjoy your drinks and nibbles, or there's an industrial-style high table and bar stools in the main area, too. Here, you can enjoy a long, creative list of cocktails and the venue's in-house pizza kitchen.

The bar has come up with its own fascinating concoctions named things like the Dibbie Dabberson which mixes strawberry gin, cranberry and a Dip Dab Lollipop, or the Snap, Bubble'n'Pop which includes Midori, Cointreau, lime, strawberry vapor and melon. There's also plenty of classics with a twist such as a Pornstar Martini with passionfruit vodka, mango vodka, vanilla vodka and champagne, or a Ballie Old Fashioned with Bulleit Bourbon, Laphroaig, winter spice and ginger. If you're not on the sauce, don't worry, there's also plenty of mocktails such as the Cranberry Cutie with strawberry, cranberry and Dip Dab.

From the pizza oven expect hearty portions of both signatures and more elaborate creations. We like the sound of the 'Pizza My Heart' with tomato, mozzarella, red and yellow peppers, courgette and caramelised onion, as well as the 'Bella Italia' with cherry tomato, blue cheese, smoked cheese, parmesan and pesto.

While these treats can't be enjoyed in the ball pit, once you're done if you head a ticket you can head on down to the mirrored, iridescent room and jump around in the pit to your heart's desire.

Horrible night

Me and my friend had a horrible night at this venue. Security absolutely rude! Not worth the money!
