Firestone Bay artillery tower is one of the oldest military buildings in Plymouth, built in the early 1500s to protect the deep-water passage at the North Plymouth Sound between Drakes’s Island & the main waterfront. It's now a hugely atmospheric restaurant with a kitchen noted for using the best of West Country meats, game & fish in a modern British style; booking ahead (even for lunch) is essential. Once past the door, you'll enjoy quality cooking, including some highly recommended homemade bread & perfect mash, as well as efficient service & some excellent wines. Try scallops with belly pork & pea puree ahead of roast duck breast with cider sauce, with, perhaps, glazed lemon tart for afters.
