There are few things more quintessentially British than an afternoon tea, and few places better to do it than in the heart of London. The Strand Palace's dining room boasts a luxurious space for some tea and cakes, with a plush red velvet backdrop that's brought to life with ornate gold detailing.
Afternoon tea at The Strand Palace is more than just your classic affair, with this whimsical and theatrical alternative that takes culinary artistry and adds the magic of the theatre to its menus. Each of the offerings has been inspired by Peacock Theatre performances, with sandwiches, cakes and cocktails bursting with refined flavours.
In true theatrical style, afternoon tea here has been divided into ‘acts’. Act one puts the focus on all things savoury, including the likes of a ‘Samba Sambal Wrap’ (grilled chicken with sambal mayonnaise, mango, lime and coriander) or the ‘Stagehands’ sausage roll, served with red onion marmalade.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an afternoon tea without some scones. The intermission of this theatrical performance comes in the form of fruit scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. It’s the perfect accompaniment for one of the loose-leaf teas on offer. Fragrant teas include the ‘Headliner’ and the ‘Ballerina’s Bliss’ as well as a choice of six special loose-leaf teas, including White Peony with Rosebuds, Palace Breakfast, and Covent Garden Blend.
Act two sees sweet delicacies taking centre stage, allowing diners to enjoy the white chocolate ‘Tutu Tartlet’, a red velvet ‘Curtain Call’ cake, as well as the intriguing ‘Actors Illusion’ which is the Strand Palace’s take on a classic peanut butter and jelly sandwich. This dish combines peanut butter mousse and raspberry compote between layers of sesame and Madeira sponge.
Available daily, from 12-5pm, this interactive afternoon tea is available with vegan and kid friendly alternatives, making it the perfect option for all the family.
