The White House is a coastal retreat in north Norfolk, just a short drive from the Scolt Head Island National Nature Reserve and the sandy beaches at Holkham and Brancaster. This secluded countryside restaurant sits right in the heart of the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and has a series of boutique bedrooms for overnight stays, as well as a relaxed restaurant - Acre at The White House - that champions local British produce.
The dining room itself is decked out in wood and neutral tones, whilst glass double doors at one end allow plenty of natural light into the space. You’ll see specially-commissioned artwork on the walls coming from local Norfolk artists too, and on warmer evenings you can sit out in The White House’s walled garden and bask in the evening sun with a glass of wine in hand.
That easy-going atmosphere is matched by the food, which leans gently in the direction of Europe and the Mediterranean. The menus change often and feature the best seasonal produce available from the local Norfolk countryside and beyond.
Dishes include the likes of pan fried scallops with lemon and herb risotto and crip pancetta, lamb Navarin with seasonal vegetables, pommes Anna and garlic and herb persillade, and basil and parmesan gnocchi with tomato fondue, rocket and pangrattato. Vegan and vegetarian options are available on request also, and The White House also boasts a significant dessert menu, run by in-house patissiere Loraine Parker. Save room for a house made tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream, a rhubarb and stem ginger fool, or a dark chocolate fondant with malted milk ice cream.
The restaurant also runs a two-course ‘table d’hôte’ supper from Sunday to Wednesday, served alongside a considered wine list and a handful of digestifs.
