17 Grams has been a must-visit coffee spot for bean-enthusiasts in Brighton since 2016. There are now three sites throughout Brighton and Hove, spanning the original cafe, a residential shop and, now, a roastery. The original coffee shop and eatery sits on Meeting House Lane, a historic part of the famous Lanes which Brighton is so well known for. The words ‘coffee, brunch and good vibes’ adorn the facade which sums up the feel of this independant perfectly. There’s no need to book, just come by and take a perch either inside, or on the outdoor seating which allows for great people watching views of the busy area. The interiors are artsy and laid-back with pleny of plants and rustic wooden furniture.
If you love coffee, this is the place to be and the team will be happy to talk you through the long list of different blends which is updated with new additions from the roastery regularly. Brunch is served until 3.30pm every day and ticks off many of the classics, but has a strong focus on vegetarian and plant-based options. To keep meat-eaters happy, there’s The Breakfast with sausages, bacon, hash brown, miso mushroom BBQ beans, wilted kale, poached egg and pesto, or the Breakfast Burito with smashed avocado, sweet chilli, scrambled egg, spinach and mushrooms, with bacon, sausage and hash browns.
If you fancy something a little different, the Asparagus Hash mixes garlic fried potatoes, feta, pan-fried asparagus and poached egg which is a delight. Elsewhere, the Maple Lentil and Roasted Veg comes with chilli and maple fried lentils and seasonal roasted vegetables, topped with smoked garlic and lime pesto. There are some sweet options too if you can be tempted, such as the Cornflake Brioche French Toast served with scrambled eggs, bacon or coconut bacon and topped with maple syrup.
