Mama Shelter is a hotel in Shoreditch that offers plenty of options when it comes to private dining. If dining in hotels sounds a bit stuffy, think again - Mama Shelter’s bijou modern hotels have proven extremely popular all over the world, from Europe to Los Angeles and Rio de Janeiro. As well as a contemporary international restaurant, Mama Shelter also boasts an attractive Garden Bar, serving lots of innovative, unique house cocktails.
As for private dining, Mama Shelter offers a number of spaces where you can tuck into a feast in the comfort of your own privacy. The private meeting room is the most popular of those for private dining - it comfortably hosts 12 guests along a long dining table, and a green velvet curtain and lots of relaxed, soft furnishings give the space a homely vibe.
Alternatively, check out the two meeting rooms (called Ateliers), which operate as blank canvas event spaces and can easily be configured for large private dinners. Each Atelier hosts up to 50 standing guests for drinks and canapes, or up to 30 seated for dinner in a cabaret format. Or, you can hire the two in conjunction and create one large private dining room for up to 60 (with standing room for up to 90).
Meanwhile, the food comes from the Mama Shelter restaurant. The menu here is eclectic and international, with a menu packed full of favourite dishes. Start off with some buttermilk popcorn chicken, mushroom arancini and nduja doughnuts with paprika mayonnaise, then follow up with fresh salads, burgers and comforting mains like slow cooked pork belly and chicken schnitzel with cherry vine tomatoes.
The desserts are equally comforting - think baked cookies, dark chocolate brownies and strawberry creme brulee - and house cocktails are worth delving into as well, with drinks including ‘Who do you voodoo’ (Appleton rum, Velvet Falernum, pineapple, passion fruit and flaming maracuja) and the Poison Dart (Tanqueray Gin and Green Chartreuse with bitter, citrus hints topped with soda).
