Holbeck Ghyll is an award-winning country house hotel in the Lake District, set in the Cumbrian Fells, just above Lake Windermere. As you can imagine, the views out across the water, watching boats come and go, and seeing the thick woodland change through the seasons is idyllic in the purest sense, making it a wonderful place to celebrate an occasion.
The hotel's in-house restaurant offers a fine dining experience helmed by Head Chef Tom Russell who has curated a menu of classic-contemporary dishes focusing on seasonal produce sourced from Cumbrian suppliers, as well as those across the UK, too.
To try the best of the menu, opt for one of the tasting menus which come in either eight or five courses. The eight course menu is heralded as an example of the chef's personal favourites and is inspired by traditional European cuisine but with a modern flair.
Examples of what you can expect to see here include scallop, chorizo, cauliflower, romanesco and apple, alongside duck liver, thyme, honey, mushroom and brioche, as well as chocolate, coffee, mascarpone, Kahlua and hazelnut.
Alternatively, the five courses are a great starting point for those who haven't tried a taster menu before, or have a smaller appetite. It showcases highlights from local suppliers including smoked feta cornetto to start, then venison bolognese and loin, cavolo nero and parsnip, as well as cured salmon with cucumber, sea herbs, avocado, creme fraiche and caviar.
There is also an a la carte menu, allowing diners the freedom to choose the dishes they are drawn to the most, with many showing similarities to the tasting menu courses. The team are also incredibly passionate about their wine selection and will happily help you match a glass or bottle to your meal.
If you'd like to talk to Holbeck Ghyll about hosting a special dinner with them, simply get in touch and the team will advise.
